1) What does chiropractic entail?
Unlike conventional medicine, that relies mainly on drugs and/or surgery, chiropractic uses manual manipulation (adjustments) of the spine to correct misalignments that are affecting the proper flow of function between the brain, the nervous system and the rest of the body.
2) what is the education of a chiropractor?
Chiropractors are medical professionals licensed in every state. Chiropractic education requires an undergraduate study in basic sciences as well as 4 years of chiropractic curriculum. Including over 2885 hours of study in anatomy, physiology, pathology, chemistry, microbiology, neurology, diagnosis, radiology, orthopedics, psychiatry and obstetrics. Also 900 hours in a clinical setting, additional training in nutrition, palpation and different adjusting techniques. Also pass the state licensing exam given by the National Boards of Chiropractic Examinations.
3) What conditions respond well to chiropractic treatment?
Allergies, arthritis, asthma, back pain, sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome, disc bulging/herniation, menstrual low back pain, fibromyalgia, headaches/migraines, knee/hip/ankle problems, musculoskeletal conditions (bones, joints, muscles), neck pain, discomfort during pregnancy, temporomandibular joint (tmj) syndrome, scoliosis, vertigo, whiplash, numbness in legs and arms, etc.
4)What causes chronic pain?
Chronic pain is associated with many things but more often it is associated with neuromusculoskeletal problems, including back pain, neck pain, pain of carpal tunnel syndrome, or the joint pain of arthritis. Pain is also usually the 1st symptom to disappear when chiropractic treatments begin. Chiropractor wants to restore the person to good health and optimal function not just to take away the pain.
5) Does chiropractic care involve any therapy?
Yes, in my office there is always therapy done whether it is electrical muscle stimulation, interferrential, ultrasound, trigger point therapy, intersegmental traction, cold therapy or heat therapy. Therapies help with the reduction of pain, reduction of inflammation and an increase in range of motion.
6) Does insurance cover chiropractic care?
Most major insurance plans( BCBS, Aetna, Humana, United Healthcare, Coventry, Mailhandlers, Assurant, Cigna, Preferred Health Professionals, etc) including Personal Injury and Workmans Compensation have benefit coverage for chiropractic care.
7) Is it safe to get an adjustment while pregnant?
Yes, up to 90 percent of women experience some kind of back and spinal problems during pregnancy. Because most drug-based treatments can have negative effects on the fetus, chiropractic care provides an excellent drug-free option for elimination of pain and promotion of mother’s health. My clinic has a special table that accommodates the growing belly.
